Job Summary

Abbott is hiring a Principal Specialist – Reimbursement to join its global Clinical Affairs team in a fully remote capacity across the USA. This critical role will drive site budget development, coverage analysis, contract negotiation, and reimbursement strategy for Abbott-sponsored clinical trials, including IDE, PAS/PMS, and HUD studies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in all clinical trial reimbursement and contract processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Medicare Coverage Analysis and budget reviews for various Abbott-sponsored clinical trials.

  • Provide reimbursement guidance on Investigational Device Exemption (IDE), Post Approval Study (PAS)/Post Market Study (PMS), and Humanitarian Use Device (HUD) trials.

  • Review and support clinical trial agreement (CTA) negotiations, site budgets, and site-specific informed consent forms.

  • Consult on CPT/DRG codes for budget development and review site responses during negotiation processes.

  • Collaborate with Healthcare Economics, Marketing, Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Legal, and Clinical Affairs teams.

  • Provide expert recommendations on reimbursement strategies to optimize clinical trial enrollment.

  • Act as a single point of contact for Healthcare Economics & Reimbursement (HE&R) for complex negotiation escalations.

  • Determine work priorities and develop solutions for unique clinical reimbursement challenges.

  • Support global clinical operations in designing cost-effective and compliant reimbursement frameworks.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sciences, Nursing, or related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in reimbursement coverage policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Expertise in US reimbursement coding, CPT/DRG/APC categorization, and processes.

  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and industry compliance regulations.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Proven project management, analytical, and multi-tasking abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in international reimbursement processes.

  • Prior experience in budget and contract negotiations is highly desirable.
