Schedule: 40 hours per week

About the Position:
The Department of Student Health and Wellness at the University of Virginia is seeking Medical Scribes for the upcoming academic year. This position is perfect for students taking a gap year between undergraduate and graduate education who are interested in health careers. As a Medical Scribe, you will work closely with patients and licensed medical staff, providing essential clinical assistance through on-site medical transcription.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scribe patient visits for various health concerns, including primary care, nutrition, travel, and dermatology.
  • Perform phlebotomy and other laboratory services under the guidance of the laboratory supervisor.
  • Obtain patient specimens, including nasal specimens from those with suspected COVID-19.
  • Prepare charts for specific types of visits, such as travel and dermatology.
  • Utilize equipment for point-of-care testing.
  • Assist with quality improvement projects and public health events, such as mass vaccination events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required prior to the start date.
  • Completion of a pre-work health screening and adherence to immunization requirements for working in a healthcare setting. Training and fitting for personal protective equipment will be provided.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per day, with breaks.
  • Walking between patient care areas and courier boxes.
  • Ability to carry loads up to 20 lbs.
