Job Description

ICON plc is hiring a Medical Coding Specialist I to support clinical trial data management by ensuring the accurate coding of medical terms, diagnoses, and treatments within clinical research datasets.

In this role, you will collaborate with clinical research teams to classify medical data using standardized coding dictionaries. Your work will help ensure data integrity, regulatory compliance, and high-quality clinical trial outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately code medical terms, diagnoses, and procedures using standardized coding systems such as MedDRA and WHO Drug.

  • Ensure consistency and accuracy of coding across multiple clinical trials.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve coding discrepancies and provide guidance on coding-related queries.

  • Maintain updated knowledge of medical coding standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Support the development and improvement of medical coding conventions and processes to enhance clinical data quality.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Healthcare, or a related field.

  • Knowledge or experience with medical coding dictionaries such as MedDRA and WHO Drug.

  • Understanding of clinical trial processes and medical coding workflows.

  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy skills.

  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in clinical research organizations (CROs) or healthcare data environments.

  • Familiarity with clinical data management systems.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve medical coding discrepancies.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
