Medical Science Liaison (MSL) – Oncology

Overall Job Purpose

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) serves as a field-based scientific expert responsible for engaging with oncology scientific experts (SEs), Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and healthcare professionals.

The role focuses on scientific exchange, insight generation, and supporting Lilly’s medical and research strategy by bridging communication between external experts and internal medical teams.


Territory & Travel

  • Base Location: Delhi NCR, India

  • Coverage Area: North & West India

  • Travel Requirement: Extensive field travel across assigned territory


Key Responsibilities

1. Scientific Expertise & Knowledge Development

  • Maintain deep, up-to-date scientific knowledge in oncology.

  • Continuously engage in learning to address advanced scientific queries.

  • Establish credibility as a trusted, unbiased scientific resource.


2. Scientific Engagement with Experts

  • Engage with oncologists, researchers, and scientific experts.

  • Provide advanced disease-state and product-related scientific information.

  • Respond to medical queries with accurate, evidence-based insights.

  • Facilitate connections between external experts and Lilly internal teams.


3. Insight Generation & Strategic Contribution

  • Collect and communicate field insights from scientific experts.

  • Share key clinical feedback with internal medical and cross-functional teams.

  • Support development of medical and commercial strategy through insights.

  • Contribute to identification of research opportunities and collaborations.


4. Territory Management & Execution

  • Develop and execute a strategic territory plan.

  • Prioritize scientific engagements based on medical strategy.

  • Ensure effective planning, tracking, and execution of field activities.

  • Take ownership of territory performance and outcomes.


5. Compliance & Professional Conduct

  • Ensure all activities comply with:

    • Internal policies

    • External regulations

    • Industry codes and legal requirements

  • Demonstrate strong ethical judgment in all interactions.

  • Operate in a fully compliant and transparent manner.


Key Competencies & Requirements

Educational Qualification

  • Advanced degree preferred:

    • PharmD / MD / PhD in health sciences or related field

  • OR Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in health sciences with:

    • 5+ years of relevant clinical / research / industry experience

  • Preferred: 2–3 years of oncology-related clinical or therapeutic experience


Experience & Skills

  • Prior MSL or field-based medical experience preferred

  • Strong oncology therapeutic knowledge

  • Experience working with KOLs and scientific experts

  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex scientific data

  • Strong presentation and communication skills

  • High emotional intelligence and relationship-building ability

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking

  • Ability to work independently in field environments

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills

  • Proficiency in digital and field-based communication tools

  • Expertise in literature review and scientific research
