About the Role:

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Lead Scientific Support Specialist to ensure smooth laboratory operations at Unity Lab Services. This role involves managing lab support activities, maintaining compliance, and acting as the primary point of contact for lab personnel.

Note:

  • Work involves handling chemicals, hazardous/toxic materials, and cold storage environments.

  • Strong adherence to safety procedures and PPE is required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform labware operations: precision cleaning, inventory management, quality control, autoclave sterilization

  • Conduct media and buffer preparation, including autoclaving, weighing, dissolution, and mixing

  • Transfer media into regulated secondary containers for research use

  • Support large-scale media development, ensuring accurate batches

  • Partner with clients to understand and meet labware and material needs

  • Follow Best Practices, SOPs, and Work Instructions

  • Maintain accurate inventory records and assist in supervising business metrics

  • Lead and mentor teams, formally or informally

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management


Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in material handling

  • Experience in a Good x Practice (GxP) environment or laboratory setting

  • Proven record of leading and mentoring teams


Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Outlook, Teams)

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Safety-first approach to lab work

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Ability to work independently and delegate tasks effectively


Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

  • Work independently at customer sites, potentially exposed to chemical allergens (e.g., penicillin, tetracycline)

  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, coveralls, facemasks, steel-toe shoes

  • Regular lifting of 30-40 lbs; occasionally up to 50 lbs

  • Use of pushcarts and forklifts to move up to 100 lbs

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and bending in varied temperature environments

  • Some overtime work may be necessary

  • Work may involve cold room/freezer environments (-22°F / -6°C) and exposure to strong odors
