Job Summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific is hiring a Lead Scientific Support Specialist to support laboratory operations, chemical inventory management, scientific support activities, buffer/media preparation, glasswash operations, and team leadership within Unity Lab Services. This role combines hands-on laboratory operations with leadership responsibilities in a regulated scientific environment.


Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations

  • Manage and verify chemical inventory levels, storage locations, and expiration dates.

  • Perform:

    • Bench audits

    • Full-cycle inventory counts

    • Barcode scanner-based inventory management

  • Receive, inspect, label, and store chemical shipments according to:

    • Chemical compatibility guidelines

    • DOT regulations

  • Identify and resolve:

    • Inventory discrepancies

    • Chemical storage issues

    • Documentation mismatches


Scientific Support

  • Support scientific lab operations including:

    • Buffer preparation

    • Media preparation

    • pH conductivity testing

    • Calibration activities

    • Titration techniques

    • Chemical compatibility handling

  • Perform glassware washing and sterilization.

  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and compliance standards.


Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor lab support team members.

  • Delegate operational tasks.

  • Ensure safety, compliance, and workflow efficiency.

  • Support additional management-assigned responsibilities.


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Associate Degree required

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred


Required Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of laboratory experience

  • Proven team leadership / mentoring experience

Experience in:

  • Lab operations

  • Chemical inventory

  • Scientific support workflows

  • Lab compliance
