Role Overview

The Lead – Data Lake & Analytics (AI/ML) will define the strategy, architecture, and execution of Syngene’s enterprise data platform on Microsoft Azure and AWS. This role encompasses end-to-end data engineering, analytics, AI/ML, and governance to enable data-driven decision-making across R&D, manufacturing, quality, finance, and commercial functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Architecture: Develop multi-year data & AI strategy and target architecture, covering data ingestion, storage, governance, analytics, MLOps, and consumption.

  • Data Engineering & Platform Build: Design and implement a scalable, secure data lake; manage streaming and batch ingestion from lab systems, MES/SCADA, ERP, CRM, finance, and scientific instruments.

  • Data Governance & Compliance: Implement robust data governance frameworks; ensure compliance with GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, GDPR/DPDPB, and Responsible AI practices.

  • AI/ML & Advanced Analytics: Build ML Ops infrastructure and deliver high-impact use cases across scientific workflows, manufacturing, quality, and corporate analytics.

  • Stakeholder Management & Delivery: Embed a Data Product mindset; manage vendor relationships and drive agile delivery practices.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary team comprising Data Architects, Engineers, Scientists, and Governance Analysts.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or related field; PhD or MBA is a plus.

  • Experience: Minimum 7+ years leading Azure/AWS data lake and analytics initiatives in regulated environments, with proven expertise in building enterprise AI/ML platforms.

Technical Skills

  • Azure/AWS Data Stack: ADLS Gen2, Databricks, Synapse/Fabric, ADF, Azure/AWS ML, Power BI, Purview.

  • Data Engineering: Spark, Delta Lake, Python/Scala, SQL.

  • ML/AI: Feature stores, MLflow, AutoML, MLOps operationalization.

  • Governance & Security: RBAC/ABAC, encryption, regulatory compliance frameworks (GxP, HIPAA, GDPR).

Soft Skills

  • Executive-level communication, stakeholder influence, product thinking, and program management.

  • Ability to translate business and scientific needs into data and AI solutions.

  • Strategic thinking with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Success Metrics (KPIs & OKRs)

  • Deliver ≥5 production AI/ML use cases with measurable business value; reduce manual reporting effort by ≥40%.

  • Maintain critical dataset quality score ≥98%, MTTR <2 hours, and full data lineage for gold datasets.

  • Achieve adoption: ≥1,000 monthly active users; NPS ≥+40 for data products.

  • Maintain pipeline failure rate <1% and reduce cost-per-insight by ≥20%.

  • Ensure zero high/critical audit findings with full compliance to GxP and 21 CFR Part 11.
