About the Role
ICON plc, a global leader in healthcare intelligence and clinical research, is seeking a Lead Clinical Data Science Programmer (Clinical Python Developer) to drive advanced data science and programming initiatives in clinical trials. This role is pivotal in developing scalable data solutions, managing clinical data pipelines, and delivering high-quality analytics to support data-driven decision-making in drug development.
You will work in a cross-functional, matrix environment, leading programming activities and contributing to innovative analytics platforms within a regulated clinical research setting.
Key Responsibilities
Lead development and implementation of clinical data science and analytics solutions using Python
Manage and maintain data pipelines, ensuring data integrity and efficient processing
Drive continuous improvement in systems deployment, lifecycle management, and enhancements
Develop advanced reports, dashboards, and visual analytics for clinical data insights
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across clinical, data, and IT functions
Support change management and optimization of analytics platforms
Translate business and clinical requirements into technical solutions and user documentation
Work independently on complex assignments and contribute to strategic initiatives
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Life Sciences, or a related field
Minimum 4+ years of experience in clinical data programming, data science, or business analysis within a regulated clinical trial environment
Strong expertise in Python programming and data manipulation libraries (e.g., Pandas)
Experience working with data warehouse platforms and large-scale clinical datasets
Advanced knowledge of SDTM data structures and clinical data standards
Experience in data mapping and clinical domain knowledge
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage complex deliverables
Preferred Skills
Experience with PySpark and big data technologies
Familiarity with Databricks and cloud-based data platforms
Experience in data visualization tools such as TIBCO Spotfire, Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik
Knowledge of requirement gathering and user requirement documentation
Exposure to multi-therapeutic area clinical trials
