About the Role:
Abbott is seeking a Head of Pharmacovigilance – India to lead and oversee all drug safety and pharmacovigilance operations within the country. This senior leadership role is pivotal in ensuring regulatory compliance, implementing global PV standards, and developing a best-in-class safety strategy that aligns with both local and international regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on drug safety and pharmacovigilance within India.

  • Ensure strict compliance with both local and global PV regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee PV contracts, vendor relationships, and handle audits/inspections of PV systems.

  • Lead signal detection and benefit-risk evaluation activities with strategic insights.

  • Develop and execute Risk Management Plans (RMPs) and additional risk minimization strategies.

  • Act as the primary liaison for safety matters with regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Marketing, and Quality Assurance teams.

  • Provide PV input in clinical trial protocols, safety monitoring plans, and SAE reporting strategies.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop the PV team, fostering a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.

  • Manage departmental budgeting, staffing, and strategic resourcing aligned with organizational goals.


Candidate Requirements:

Education:

  • Advanced degree in Medicine (MBBS/MD) or Pharmacy (M.Pharm/Pharm.D).

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in pharmacovigilance, preferably in a leadership capacity.

  • Proven ability to build and scale PV systems across complex pharmaceutical operations.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of local and global PV regulations (e.g., CDSCO, FDA, EMA, ICH).

  • Expertise in signal management, risk evaluation, and regulatory safety submissions.

  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Experience in managing cross-functional collaboration, departmental budgets, and global audits.
