Drug Safety Physician – ICON plc – Chennai (On-site)
Job Summary:
ICON plc, a global leader in clinical research and healthcare intelligence, is hiring a Drug Safety Physician in Chennai. This pivotal role focuses on medical safety and pharmacovigilance activities within clinical trials and post-marketing settings. Key Responsibilities:
Review and assess Adverse Events (AEs) and Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) for seriousness, expectedness, and relatedness
Apply MedDRA coding and regulatory classification to safety data
Evaluate safety signals in clinical and post-marketing data
Prepare and review safety reports: PSURs, ASRs, DSURs, IND annual reports
Support regulatory compliance in expedited and periodic reporting
Provide pharmacovigilance consultation and input on core safety documentation
Train and guide internal teams on regulatory safety requirements
Participate in project-specific meetings and client communication
Review and contribute to safety sections of product information and study documents
Escalate critical safety concerns to leadership for strategic resolution
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and active medical license
Minimum 2–3 years of patient care in hospital-based settings
Prior pharmacovigilance or clinical research experience (preferred)
Strong analytical and case assessment capabilities
Familiarity with MedDRA, ICH guidelines, GVP
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Willingness to travel if needed
