Drug Safety Physician – ICON plc – Chennai (On-site)

Job Summary:
ICON plc, a global leader in clinical research and healthcare intelligence, is hiring a Drug Safety Physician in Chennai. This pivotal role focuses on medical safety and pharmacovigilance activities within clinical trials and post-marketing settings. Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess Adverse Events (AEs) and Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) for seriousness, expectedness, and relatedness

  • Apply MedDRA coding and regulatory classification to safety data

  • Evaluate safety signals in clinical and post-marketing data

  • Prepare and review safety reports: PSURs, ASRs, DSURs, IND annual reports

  • Support regulatory compliance in expedited and periodic reporting

  • Provide pharmacovigilance consultation and input on core safety documentation

  • Train and guide internal teams on regulatory safety requirements

  • Participate in project-specific meetings and client communication

  • Review and contribute to safety sections of product information and study documents

  • Escalate critical safety concerns to leadership for strategic resolution


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and active medical license

  • Minimum 2–3 years of patient care in hospital-based settings

  • Prior pharmacovigilance or clinical research experience (preferred)

  • Strong analytical and case assessment capabilities

  • Familiarity with MedDRA, ICH guidelines, GVP

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Willingness to travel if needed
