Job Overview

The Clinical Data Coder 1 will provide comprehensive clinical data management and coding expertise to support data management teams and meet sponsor and organizational requirements. The role involves performing clinical data coding activities, managing coding deliverables, ensuring data quality, and supporting clinical trial processes across the full study lifecycle.

This position may also involve leadership responsibilities such as serving as a Lead Coder, Data Operations Coordinator (DOC), or leading coding-related tasks in large-scale clinical trials.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform independent clinical data coding activities for one or more clinical study protocols.

  • Manage coding deliverables and standalone coding projects throughout the full clinical study lifecycle with minimal supervision.

  • Validate and test coding applications, coding reports, datasets, and related programming activities.

  • Conduct data review processes, raise and resolve data clarifications, and ensure data accuracy and consistency.

  • Support project timelines for coding activities in coordination with Data Team Leads or Managers.

  • Perform Serious Adverse Event (SAE) reconciliation activities.

  • Serve as backup support for Lead Coder, Data Operations Coordinator, or Data Team Lead roles when required.

  • Execute quality control procedures and assist in implementing new technologies in data management.

  • Provide proactive coding and project-related solutions to data management teams.

  • Handle audit requirements for assigned studies and coding projects.

  • Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, work instructions, and regulatory guidelines.

  • Maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with internal teams and stakeholders.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by study teams or management.


Eligibility and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Pharmacy, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Life Sciences, or related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in clinical data management, medical coding, or related domain.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, and physiology.

  • Hands-on experience with medical coding dictionaries such as MedDRA and WHO Drug Dictionary (WHODD).

  • Understanding of clinical data management processes from study start-up to database lock.

  • Knowledge of database technologies used in clinical data management and coding environments.

  • Strong attention to detail with problem-solving and independent decision-making capabilities.

  • Familiarity with standard operating procedures and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Strong organizational, teamwork, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification may be required where applicable.
