Job Overview:

As the Director of Product Engineering – Patient Safety, you will lead the end-to-end strategy and development of Fortrea’s Patient Safety software solutions. This pivotal role bridges technology and business—ensuring that the products are innovative, functional, compliant, and market-relevant. You will directly impact product excellence, user satisfaction, client value, and business outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

🧩 Product Strategy & Lifecycle Management

  • Own the full product lifecycle—from concept to launch

  • Align product vision with customer needs, business goals, and regulatory requirements

  • Conduct market research to identify trends, competitive threats, and innovation opportunities in life sciences

  • Define and prioritize product features and requirements in collaboration with engineering, sales, and support teams

📊 Execution & Performance

  • Develop and maintain clear, strategic product roadmaps

  • Track and analyze product performance metrics, making data-informed adjustments as needed

  • Ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., GxP) throughout the development lifecycle

🤝 Stakeholder Engagement & Team Management

  • Build strong relationships with key clients and industry experts to gather insights for continuous improvement

  • Manage globally distributed teams in a matrixed environment

  • Oversee support teams handling incident and problem management for Patient Safety systems

💼 Business Ownership

  • Own portfolio forecasts, budget management, and optimize team and resource utilization

  • Evaluate 3rd-party tool usage, including license consumption and external spend

  • Drive efficiency, value delivery, and cost-effectiveness in product development

🚀 Innovation & User-Centered Design

  • Stay ahead of technology trends in Patient Safety and the CRO space

  • Champion user-centered design principles for intuitive software

  • Incorporate data strategy into product functionality and decision-making


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering

    Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education

  • 6+ years of product management experience in:

    • Life sciences or software development

    • Pharmacovigilance and Patient Safety software

  • Proven experience in:

    • Launching software products

    • Agile methodologies

    • Leading cross-functional, global teams

    • Managing full product lifecycle in a regulated environment

    • Using DevOps and product management tools

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and strategic thinking skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) in Business, Life Sciences, or related field

  • Certification in Product Management or Agile methodologies

  • Experience in:

    • Startups or fast-paced environments

    • Software development processes

    • The CRO industry with a deep understanding of Patient Safety workflows

  • Technical background and creative problem-solving mindset
