Director, Medical Affairs – Abbott | Princeton, NJ

Job Summary:

Abbott is hiring a Director of Medical Affairs for its Point of Care (APOC) division in Princeton, New Jersey. In this leadership role, you will oversee the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team across the Americas, drive strategic initiatives in medical affairs, and provide scientific expertise to support clinical education, product launches, and regulatory compliance. Ideal for candidates with an MD, DO, or PhD and over 10 years of combined clinical and industry experience.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team

  • Contribute to global medical strategy with regional medical affairs leaders (EMEA, APAC)

  • Ensure MSL compliance with regulatory, legal, and promotional standards

  • Oversee scientific dissemination, medical advisory boards, and medical education activities

  • Represent Medical Affairs at internal and external scientific and stakeholder events

  • Support commercial and marketing teams during new product launches (e.g., TBI and troponin assays)

  • Review and approve clinical and promotional materials in alignment with MLR processes

  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration with Clinical Affairs, Regulatory, R&D, Quality, and Legal

  • Manage operational plans, KPIs, and budgets for medical affairs activities

  • Mentor MSL team on best practices and compliance in HCP interactions

  • Assist in investigator-sponsored and collaborative research initiatives


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • MD, DO, and/or PhD in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Critical Care

  • Minimum 10 years’ combined experience (including clinical practice and pharma industry)

  • 3+ years post-residency direct patient care and 5+ years of industry experience

  • Advanced understanding of MSL leadership and compliance requirements

  • Excellent scientific communication and presentation skills

  • Strategic thinking and cross-functional leadership capabilities

  • Experience in managing budgets and developing operational KPIs

  • Deep knowledge of the US healthcare system and pharmaceutical regulatory standards
