About the Role

Abbott is looking for a Director, Medical Affairs - Americas to join the team in Princeton, NJ. This leadership role involves contributing to the global Medical & Scientific Affairs strategy, overseeing the execution of strategic initiatives, managing the MSL team, and ensuring the alignment of cross-functional teams. You will also represent Abbott at professional medical congresses and stakeholder groups, driving education programs and managing the budget associated with the role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Contribute to global Medical & Scientific Affairs strategy alongside the Sr. Director of GMSA.
  • Team and Project Management: Lead and manage the MSL team, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and effective execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Clinical Affairs, R&D, Regulatory, Marketing, and Commercial teams to align medical and clinical goals with business objectives.
  • Education and Training: Develop and promote medical education activities, particularly supporting commercial launches and creating clinical/medical content for internal and external education.
  • Budget Management: Manage the budget associated with the role, ensuring proper allocation of resources.
  • KOL Management: Collaborate with the Director of Global Scientific Affairs to manage Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and facilitate investigator-sponsored studies (ISS).

Skills and Qualifications

  • Education:
    • MD or DO required; Ph.D. a plus.
    • Specialization in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Critical Care preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years of experience, including 3 years after residency and 5 years in industry.
    • Proven communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
    • Experience in managing cross-functional teams and effectively communicating clinical data to HCPs/Customers.
  • Management Skills:
    • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
    • Experience in budget and resource management, successfully leading projects, and mentoring others.
