Role Summary

The Dietician is responsible for providing comprehensive nutritional assessment, diet planning, patient counseling, and dietary management services for both inpatient (IPD) and outpatient (OPD) populations. The role focuses on developing individualized nutrition plans based on medical conditions, promoting healthy dietary practices, enhancing patient recovery outcomes, and ensuring patient satisfaction with nutritional services.

The Dietician will work closely with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to deliver evidence-based nutritional care and support hospital dietary operations.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Nutrition Management

  • Assess patients’ nutritional status and dietary requirements.

  • Develop individualized nutrition care plans based on:

    • Medical Diagnosis

    • Clinical Condition

    • Nutritional Needs

    • Treatment Goals

  • Monitor patient progress and modify dietary plans as required.

  • Ensure nutrition interventions support patient recovery and well-being.

Patient Counseling & Education

  • Educate patients and attendants regarding prescribed diets and nutritional requirements.

  • Explain dietary restrictions, modifications, and meal plans according to medical conditions.

  • Provide nutrition counseling for:

    • Diabetes

    • Cardiovascular Diseases

    • Renal Disorders

    • Gastrointestinal Conditions

    • Weight Management

    • Other Therapeutic Diets

  • Promote healthy eating habits and lifestyle modifications.

OPD Nutrition Services

  • Conduct nutritional consultations for outpatient department (OPD) patients.

  • Perform dietary assessments and nutritional evaluations.

  • Develop customized diet plans for patients based on clinical needs and lifestyle factors.

  • Provide follow-up counseling and progress monitoring.

Inpatient Diet Planning

  • Plan and monitor therapeutic diets for hospitalized patients.

  • Coordinate with:

    • Physicians

    • Clinical Teams

    • Nursing Staff

  • Ensure dietary prescriptions are implemented accurately.

  • Review and update diet orders based on patient condition changes.

Meal Quality Assurance

  • Evaluate patient meals prior to service.

  • Approve meals after assessing:

    • Taste

    • Texture

    • Appearance

    • Temperature

    • Portion Size

  • Ensure meals meet prescribed nutritional requirements and hospital quality standards.

  • Coordinate with kitchen and food service teams to maintain quality.

Patient Feedback & Complaint Resolution

  • Address patient concerns related to dietary services.

  • Investigate and resolve nutrition-related complaints promptly.

  • Monitor patient satisfaction regarding food quality and dietary services.

  • Implement corrective actions based on feedback received.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with:

    • Physicians

    • Clinical Nutrition Teams

    • Nursing Staff

    • Food Service Departments

  • Participate in multidisciplinary patient care discussions.

  • Provide nutritional recommendations to support clinical decision-making.

Documentation & Record Management

  • Maintain accurate and complete patient nutrition records.

  • Document:

    • Nutritional Assessments

    • Diet Plans

    • Counseling Sessions

    • Follow-Up Notes

  • Ensure compliance with hospital documentation standards.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to:

    • Hospital Policies

    • Clinical Nutrition Standards

    • Food Safety Guidelines

    • Accreditation Requirements

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.

  • Support audits and inspections related to dietary services.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Food, Nutrition & Dietetics

OR

  • Master’s Degree in:

    • Food & Nutrition

    • Clinical Nutrition

    • Dietetics

    • Applied Nutrition

    • Related Discipline

From a reputed university or recognized institution.


Experience

  • 2–3 years of experience as a Dietician in:

    • Hospitals

    • Multi-Specialty Healthcare Facilities

    • Clinical Nutrition Settings

  • Experience in therapeutic diet planning and patient counseling preferred.
