Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Deputy Director – Quality (Medical Coding) to lead enterprise-wide quality governance for medical coding operations based in Chennai. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving audit excellence, regulatory compliance, error reduction, automation adoption, and continuous quality improvement across in-house teams and multiple vendor partners.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in multispecialty medical coding, quality frameworks, AI-enabled audit solutions, and Lean Six Sigma methodologies, with a proven ability to mentor leaders, influence stakeholders, and elevate organizational quality benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee comprehensive quality audits across internal coding teams and external vendors
Enforce medical coding best practices to mitigate risks such as under-coding, over-coding, and missed diagnoses
Design, implement, and continuously improve internal and external audit programs to enhance compliance and accuracy
Establish and scale robust quality control frameworks to improve coding precision and operational efficiency
Drive enterprise initiatives focused on error rate reduction, productivity improvement, and quality standardization
Implement AI-enabled and automation-driven audit solutions, including real-time QA tools and automated coding reviews
Monitor and report critical Accuracy KPIs such as Missed Error Rate, Extra Error Rate, and Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR)
Leverage advanced data analytics to identify quality trends, compliance gaps, and systemic risks
Develop and present executive dashboards and MIS reports for senior leadership and clients
Partner closely with Operations, Training, and Compliance teams to resolve discrepancies and deploy corrective action plans
Lead, mentor, and develop QA Managers, Auditors, and Trainers across multiple locations
Design and roll out quality-focused training programs to enhance coder consistency and skill maturity
Foster a strong culture of continuous improvement, regulatory adherence, and operational excellence
Required Skills & Competencies
Deep expertise in medical coding standards, audit methodologies, and compliance requirements
Strong exposure to AI, automation, and digital transformation in coding quality audits
Advanced proficiency in quality metrics, dashboards, and performance analytics
Strategic leadership with the ability to influence cross-functional and senior stakeholders
Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and root cause analysis (RCA) skills
Strong communication, executive presentation, and stakeholder management capabilities
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 13 years of experience in Healthcare RCM and Quality Assurance
5–6 years of hands-on multispecialty medical coding expertise
Certified Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt from recognized institutions (ISI, ASQ, Benchmark, KPMG, or equivalent) with demonstrable project experience
Strong command of coding audit frameworks, accuracy improvement strategies, and regulatory compliance
AAPC or AHIMA certification preferred (CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA)
Proven experience with AI-powered coding audit tools, automation platforms, and process digitization
Demonstrated success in leading large teams, driving transformation, and managing complex stakeholders
Advanced analytical skills with hands-on experience in Quality Metrics, Lean Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement
