About the Role

Fortrea, a global leader in clinical research, is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse to join our Early Phase Clinical Research Unit in Madison, WI. This role offers a dynamic environment where you'll work closely with healthy volunteer participants and be part of a fast-paced, collaborative team supporting Phase 1 clinical trials.

You'll gain exposure to a wide variety of therapeutic indications and study types, including:

  • Ascending dose

  • First-in-human

  • Food effect

  • Drug-to-drug interactions


Key Responsibilities

Participant Care & Safety

  • Deliver high-quality clinical care using nursing diagnosis, skills, and clinical judgment.

  • Prioritize the dignity, safety, and well-being of participants at all times.

  • Maintain current emergency certifications and respond to emergency situations per clinical and company protocols.

Study Procedures & Compliance

  • Conduct and manage:

    • Informed Consent process

    • Study-specific participant education

    • Investigational drug administration (including parenteral)

  • Monitor participants for adverse events and document and act accordingly.

  • Perform protocol-specific clinical procedures:

    • Cannulation

    • ECGs

    • Holter monitoring

    • Vital signs

    • Venipuncture

    • Telemetry

Documentation & Data Integrity

  • Accurately record clinical observations and transcribe data into Case Report Forms (CRFs).

  • Ensure compliance with protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and regulatory guidelines.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support study start-up, conduct, and close-out activities as needed.

  • Participate in training, skill-building, and team development initiatives.

  • Additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (ADN/BSN).

  • Active nursing license in the state of Wisconsin.

  • CPR/AED certification required.

  • ACLS certification preferred upon hire (can be obtained post-hire).

  • Relevant clinical or research experience may be accepted in lieu of education requirements.

Experience

  • 0–1 year of nursing or clinical research experience.

  • Previous experience in clinical trials or early-phase research is a plus.
