Position Overview

The CVRM Clinical Operations Therapeutic Area Leader will oversee the strategy and execution of clinical operations for the Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism (CVRM) portfolio within Roche/Genentech's Pharma Product Development Global Clinical Operations (PDG). This senior leadership role includes driving portfolio strategy, managing large cross-functional teams, and influencing strategic decisions to ensure the successful execution of clinical trials.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and Evolve CVRM Portfolio Strategy

    • Lead the clinical operations strategy for the CVRM portfolio, continuously refining it to align with evolving scientific and regulatory landscapes.

    • Ensure the strategy aligns with the Clinical Development Plan (CDP) and the broader One Pharma Strategy.

  2. Oversight and Risk Management for Portfolio Delivery

    • Provide active oversight of portfolio status, monitor progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure smooth execution of clinical trials.

  3. Strategic Stakeholder Alignment and Collaboration

    • Drive alignment among stakeholders across PDG, APO, COEs, and development teams to optimize clinical trial delivery.

    • Provide operational leadership to influence decision-making and prioritize initiatives effectively.

  4. Operational Leadership and Innovation

    • Enhance clinical operations through data-driven analytics, optimizing efficiency, quality, and budget management.

    • Lead innovation initiatives to improve technical success (PTS) and implement patient-centric research approaches.

  5. Representation and Influence Across Roche Enterprise

    • Represent the CVRM portfolio across Roche/Genentech, fostering relationships with internal leaders, health authorities, patient advocacy groups, and external vendors.

  6. Leadership and Team Development

    • Lead a matrixed team of approximately 150 employees, including 10-12 direct reports.

    • Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and high performance, with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I).

  7. Collective Leadership with an Enterprise Mindset

    • Represent CVRM as part of the Portfolio Delivery Leadership Team, aligning PDG and Roche priorities to drive patient outcomes.

  8. People Management and Administrative Oversight

    • Manage team performance through feedback, coaching, and development planning.

    • Oversee administrative tasks, including performance management and employment-related matters.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience:

    • 15+ years in pharmaceutical clinical operations, with at least 10 years in global clinical operations strategy leadership.

    • Experience managing large, matrixed organizations and leading high-performing teams.

  • Expertise in CVRM:

    • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic diseases, including trends and challenges in global CVRM development.

  • Clinical Development Knowledge:

    • Comprehensive understanding of global Pharma clinical development in international settings.

  • Leadership Skills:

    • Proven success in strategy development and execution using analytics and data-driven decision-making.

    • Track record of expanding access to underserved populations and meeting ambitious goals.

  • Fluency in English:

    • Additional language skills are an asset.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range (California location): $227,600 - $422,600 (based on experience and qualifications).

  • Bonus: Discretionary annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
