Job Summary

Apotex is seeking a Chemical Operator (PO4) to support API manufacturing operations at its Brantford facility. This role is responsible for the setup, operation, monitoring, and cleaning of heavy process equipment used in the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients. The Chemical Operator ensures safe, compliant, and efficient manufacturing operations in accordance with cGMP, health and safety standards, and internal procedures while contributing to continuous process improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, monitor, and shut down processing equipment including reactors, filters, dryers, mills, and associated systems

  • Execute assigned production steps under the direction of Senior Chemical Operators or the Production Supervisor

  • Accurately document production data, observations, and process parameters in manufacturing batch records under supervision

  • Monitor equipment performance and promptly report deviations, abnormalities, or safety concerns

  • Perform cleaning and sanitation of production equipment and areas using approved chemicals and detergents

  • Maintain assigned production areas in a GMP-compliant, clean, and organized condition

  • Follow all company health, safety, environmental, cGMP, and SOP requirements

  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and adhere to safety procedures at all times

  • Communicate effectively with senior operators, production specialists, and supervisors regarding plant and equipment status

  • Participate in scheduled training programs and maintain compliance with assigned training plans

  • Review and provide feedback on MBRs, change requests, and SOPs to ensure alignment with current practices

  • Support cross-functional operations by assisting in other work centers when assigned

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to shift start to ensure readiness for production activities

  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve operational and quality objectives

Education Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma (required)

  • College diploma or Chemical Engineering Technician (CET) certification (strongly preferred)

  • Post-secondary degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry (desirable)


Experience Required

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a chemical operator or process manufacturing role

  • Prior experience in API manufacturing or pharmaceutical production is preferred

  • Exposure to process chemistry and GMP-regulated environments is an asset


Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate industrial processing equipment

  • Basic computer proficiency, including MS Office applications

  • Good verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in English

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, physically demanding manufacturing environment

  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance

  • Willingness and ability to wear required protective equipment

  • Ability to meet physical demands including lifting, standing, climbing, crouching, and operating tools

  • Flexibility to work continental rotating 12-hour day and night shifts

  • Continuous improvement mindset and working knowledge of GMP requirements
