The Computational and Data Sciences team at Syngene specializes in applying computational biology, computational chemistry, data sciences, and research informatics to address complex drug discovery challenges. From target identification and hit discovery to lead optimization and translational insights, the team leverages advanced data analytics and modeling to enhance research outcomes.


Job Purpose:

The Bioinformatician (Associate Scientist) will be responsible for designing, developing, and automating scalable multi-omics data analysis pipelines. The role involves integrating diverse biological datasets, implementing computational workflows, and applying advanced analytics techniques to derive meaningful biological insights. The candidate will also contribute to the development of innovative bioinformatics approaches and ensure reproducibility and efficiency in large-scale data analysis.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Multi-Omics Data Analysis & Integration:

  • Perform comprehensive analyses of multi-omics datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and epigenomics.
  • Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques for data interpretation, pattern recognition, and biomarker discovery.
  • Conduct integrative analyses to uncover relationships between different omics layers.

2. Pipeline Development & Automation:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and automated bioinformatics pipelines for high-throughput multi-omics data processing.
  • Utilize workflow management tools such as Nextflow, Snakemake, or CWL to enhance pipeline efficiency and reproducibility.
  • Implement best practices for version control, modularization, and pipeline documentation.

3. Data Visualization & Interpretation:

  • Create high-quality visualizations to effectively communicate complex biological data and analysis results.
  • Utilize tools such as ggplot2, matplotlib, seaborn, or D3.js for interactive and publication-ready visual representations.

4. Research & Development in Bioinformatics:

  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and advancements in bioinformatics, particularly in multi-omics, network biology, and AI-driven analytics.
  • Develop novel computational approaches to analyze biological networks and gene regulatory pathways.

5. Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing:

  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including wet-lab scientists, computational biologists, and data scientists.
  • Contribute to the development of new methodologies and provide bioinformatics expertise for various projects.

Technical Skills & Competencies:

Mandatory Skills:

  • Programming: Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis, visualization, and pipeline development.
  • Multi-Omics Analysis: Hands-on experience in analyzing and integrating multi-omics datasets.
  • Biological Networks: Understanding of gene regulatory networks and protein-protein interaction networks.
  • Data Visualization: Strong knowledge of tools like ggplot2, matplotlib, seaborn, or D3.js for effective data representation.

Preferred Skills:

  • Graph & Network Biology: Basic knowledge of graph theory and its applications in bioinformatics.
  • Statistics: Familiarity with probability distributions, correlation analysis, and hypothesis testing.
  • Workflow Management: Experience with Nextflow, Snakemake, or CWL for bioinformatics pipeline automation.
  • Cloud Computing: Exposure to AWS, GCP, or Azure and containerization tools like Docker or Singularity.

Educational Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of hands-on experience in multi-omics data analysis and pipeline development.
  • Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
