Job Purpose:

The Associate Scientist (Neuroscience) will join the Molecular Pharmacology group at BBRC to contribute to the discovery and validation of therapeutic targets for neuropsychiatric diseases. Expertise in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and neurological conditions like Schizophrenia is highly encouraged.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Experimental Design and Execution:

    • Design and conduct rigorous experiments, including cell-based assays (cell lines, primary neurons, human iPSCs) and biochemical assays, for drug discovery programs focused on neuropsychiatric diseases.
    • Perform receptor occupancy assays and analyze target engagement from cell cultures, brain, and peripheral tissues.
    • Independently determine in-vitro pharmacologic methods to study modulation of GPCRs and neurotransmitter receptors in primary neurons and human iPSC neurons.
  • Assay Development and Troubleshooting:

    • Develop and troubleshoot assays independently, ensuring accuracy and reliability in the data.
    • Record, analyze, and communicate scientific data effectively.
  • Scientific Literature Review:

    • Independently search and review the scientific literature relevant to target biology, keeping up-to-date with advancements in the field.

Educational Qualifications:

  • MS, MTech, or MPharm in enzymology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline.

Experience:

  • 5-6 years of experience in neuropharmacology or small molecule pharmacology, with a focus on GPCRs and neurotransmitter receptors at the molecular level in the CNS.

Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Expertise in neuropharmacology, especially in assessing drug target engagement through biochemical, cellular, and/or radioligand binding assays.
  • Ability to perform ex-vivo receptor occupancy assays in brain tissues.
  • Hands-on experience in complex cellular models or ex-vivo systems, designing and executing mechanistic/pharmacological characterization of lead candidates.
  • Proficient in following pre-established experimental designs and developing new methods, protocols, and technologies based on the existing literature.
