Associate Director – Quantitative Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics (QP2)

Job Summary

Merck & Co. is seeking a highly skilled Associate Director, Quantitative Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics (QP2) to join its growing team supporting cardiometabolic and ophthalmology drug development. This hybrid role, based in South San Francisco, offers a unique opportunity to lead end-to-end pharmacometric modeling strategies in one of the world's most research-intensive biopharma companies. The role is ideal for an experienced PK/PD modeling expert with strong cross-functional collaboration and regulatory engagement experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead model-informed strategies for translational PK/PD, POPPK/PD, and clinical trial simulation

  • Represent QP2 on cross-functional discovery and development teams

  • Optimize dose selection, trial design, and go/no-go decisions

  • Collaborate with external vendors and partners to guide regulatory strategies

  • Lead study design, protocol development, and data interpretation

  • Shape and support regulatory submissions through quantitative modeling

  • Mentor junior pharmacometric staff and contribute to team development


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Ph.D. with 4+ years, PharmD with 6+ years, or MS with 8+ years in quantitative drug development

  • Background in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacometrics, biopharmaceutics, or biomedical engineering

  • Expertise in population PK/PD modeling using NONMEM, Monolix, Phoenix

  • Strong knowledge in modeling of complex therapeutics and clinical trial simulations

  • Excellent communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and problem-solving skills

  • Regulatory documentation and submission experience


Preferred Skills

  • Experience in cardiometabolic or ophthalmology clinical drug development

  • Strong knowledge of biopharmaceutical and ADME properties of biologics and small molecules

  • Advanced statistical and modeling capabilities in PKPD, exposure-response analysis
