About the Team

Data Operations (DO) at Elsevier is responsible for ensuring that secondary content is correctly acquired, processed, stored, and distributed to external customers, while also making it available on Elsevier’s product websites for end users.


Position Overview

The Associate Data Specialist will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to establish data quality metrics, requirements, and reports. The role involves analyzing, categorizing, and systematically organizing data, with responsibilities spanning data mining, modeling, evaluation, validation, and interpretation.


Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Validation

  • Critically analyze and evaluate written content to identify writing styles, patterns, and contextual information.

  • Thoroughly examine profiles and determine their association with the target author.

  • Evaluate evidence for each data point, considering reliability and relevance.

  • Research external web sources (search engines, databases, repositories, university/faculty sites, professional pages).

Data Collection & Management

  • Gather faculty information: personal details, employment history, qualifications, contact information, and research interests.

  • Enter collected data accurately into spreadsheets and the faculty roster database.

  • Ensure structured organization, consistency, and accuracy of data formatting.

  • Cross-check data for completeness, resolving discrepancies through follow-up verification.

  • Regularly update records to reflect changes in faculty details.

Quality Assurance

  • Implement measures to uphold integrity and accuracy of faculty roster data.

  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and organizational policies.

  • Generate reports, summaries, and analyses as requested by management.


Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in data evaluation and validation.

  • Experience collaborating in a matrix organization and solving problems with innovative solutions.

  • Exposure to Agile development environments; knowledge of JIRA preferred.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel essential) with ability to learn new systems.

  • Strong research and analytical skills.

  • Familiarity with scientific research, publications, affiliations, co-authors, and citations.

  • Excellent business acumen and communication skills.

  • Ability to critically assess information and make evidence-based decisions.
