Associate Chemist - Toxicology

Position Overview:

Labcorp is seeking an Associate Chemist to join its Toxicology Department in Burlington, NC. This role involves working with LC/MS Data Review and Instrument Operation in a fast-paced, customer-focused laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and certify LC/MS data using Analyst and Ascent software.
  • Verify calibration, quality controls, and patient data before result entry.
  • Perform minor troubleshooting, repairs, and instrument preparation for LC/MS systems.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of organic and inorganic samples.
  • Participate in new analytical procedure development.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
  • Evaluate raw and final data accuracy and correct errors as needed.
  • Guide technical staff in analysis and interpretation of results.
  • Assist in training and orientation of new employees.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control.
  • Maintain and replenish testing bench supplies.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or a related science.
  • Minimum 2+ years of clinical laboratory testing experience required.
  • Experience with Chromatographic Data Review preferred.
  • Strong technical proficiency in clinical testing and scientific knowledge.
  • Advanced understanding of laboratory operations and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise judgment for new assignments.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems and computer usage.
  • High attention to detail, strong communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must pass a standardized color vision screen.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts as needed.

Work Schedule & Compensation:

  • Shift: 2nd Shift (Tuesday-Saturday, 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM).
  • Shift Differential: 10% for 2nd shift hours.
