Role Overview

The Associate / Analyst – Laboratory Operations will support the daily functioning of research laboratories within the Discovery Services division. The role focuses on monitoring laboratory activities, supporting chemical handling and reaction monitoring, maintaining laboratory safety standards, and ensuring operational continuity during shift hours.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining laboratory efficiency, ensuring compliance with environmental health and safety standards, and supporting scientists by providing operational assistance related to chemicals, equipment, and laboratory infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations and Monitoring

  • Monitor overnight chemical reactions and laboratory activities to ensure safe and uninterrupted operations.

  • Supervise hydrogenation laboratory reactions during non-standard working hours.

  • Monitor laboratory cold room temperatures and record environmental conditions as required.

  • Ensure laboratory instruments and equipment are switched off when not in use to maintain operational safety.

Chemical Handling and Material Support

  • Prepare and fill inorganic chemicals required for laboratory experiments.

  • Provide laboratory scientists with required gas cylinders such as oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, and ammonia as needed.

  • Support Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) teams in transferring toxic materials to designated quenching stations.

  • Facilitate the movement and handling of quenching materials within the laboratory facility.

Safety and Emergency Response

  • Respond to unexpected incidents or emergencies within the laboratory environment.

  • Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals and laboratory materials.

  • Support laboratory safety procedures and compliance with established environmental health and safety protocols.

Facility and Infrastructure Support

  • Monitor fresh solvent filling activities and ensure safe chemical storage practices.

  • Assist in preparing scrubber solutions for column hoods, walk-in hoods, high-throughput screening (HTS) laboratories, and ADC laboratories.

  • Support laboratory infrastructure maintenance and operational readiness.

Documentation and Operational Support

  • Track and maintain shift-based operational activities and laboratory logs.

  • Assist in documentation related to laboratory operations and material handling.

  • Ensure adherence to internal operational procedures and quality standards.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Chemistry, Life Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Basic understanding of laboratory operations and research facility support activities.

  • Knowledge of chemical handling and laboratory safety procedures.

  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and general data management.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and maintain accurate documentation.

  • Strong sense of responsibility, accountability, and ownership of assigned tasks.

  • Ability to work in shifts and respond effectively to operational requirements.
