Role Overview

The Assistant Technician – Hemodialysis is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring hemodialysis machines to ensure safe and effective dialysis treatment. This role supports dialysis nurses and nephrologists by preparing equipment, priming circuits, maintaining documentation, and ensuring adherence to infection control and quality standards.

This opportunity is ideal for candidates seeking hands-on experience in dialysis technology, biomedical equipment handling, and renal patient care operations within a structured clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines for patients undergoing renal replacement therapy.

  • Attach dialyzer and tubing to machines and prime extracorporeal circuits with 0.9% normal saline prior to treatment.

  • Label dialyzers and bloodlines with patient name and identification details before first use (excluding single-use items).

  • Prepare dialysis solutions and mix bicarbonate as per prescribed formulas and clinical guidelines.

  • Explain dialysis procedures and machine operations to patients to reduce anxiety and ensure informed participation.

  • Connect hemodialysis machines to the patient’s vascular access site to initiate treatment under supervision.

  • Monitor dialysis machines for malfunction or technical irregularities during procedures.

  • Maintain accurate logbooks, forms, and registers in compliance with clinical documentation standards.

  • Ensure proper cleaning, handling, and readiness of dialysis equipment according to safety protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certification in Dialysis Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, or related technical healthcare field.

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience working in a dialysis center or hospital hemodialysis unit.

  • Basic understanding of hemodialysis procedures and machine operations.

  • Knowledge of infection control practices and equipment safety standards.

  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and follow SOPs.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with dialysis machine troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.

  • Strong communication skills for patient interaction.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
