Job Description

The primary role of the Medical Scribe is to ensure the complete and accurate capture of medical information as dictated by the clinician. The scribe assists the clinician in navigating the electronic health record (EHR) and does not perform independent clinical judgment or direct patient care.

Essential Functions

Documentation: Accompany clinician into patient exam areas to accurately document the clinician’s encounter with the patient as described by the clinician.
Clarification: Seek real-time clarification of all information entered into the medical record.
Data Entry: List diagnoses and symptoms, follow-up instructions, and prescriptions as mentioned by the clinician.
Order Entry: Enter orders for diagnostic testing and medications, which require clinician approval to activate.
Procedure Documentation: Document procedures performed as described by the clinician.
Compliance: Invoke the organization’s approved scribe statement for each clinical note.
Completion: Complete all scribe duties before leaving the patient care area.
Professionalism: Maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times.

Qualifications

Required

High School diploma or GED.
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Terminology, Nursing, or related discipline.

Preferred

Six months of experience as a medical scribe, medical transcriptionist, or in a related job in a medical office.
Knowledge/experience with EPIC electronic health records.

The Virtual Medical Scribe works from home, partnering with a medical provider to document patient visits in real-time.

Requirements

Education: High School diploma or GED required.
Experience: Six months experience as a medical scribe, medical transcriptionist, or other related job in a medical office preferred. EPIC knowledge/experience preferred.
Skills: Knowledge of medical terminology, fast typing speed and accuracy, strong computer and communication skills.
Other: Secure internet connection, private workspace, availability for full uninterrupted 8-to-10 hour shifts during normal business hours, compliance with HIPAA.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $9.00 - $12.00 per hour (based on factors including market conditions, location, education, work experience, certifications, etc.)
