Job Title: Organic Chemist (Synthesis)

Role Overview:

As an Organic Chemist, you will be responsible for executing chemical reactions to synthesize molecules or compounds as per client specifications. You will use efficient synthetic routes and techniques to deliver high-quality products, ensuring safety, data integrity, and meeting productivity benchmarks.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Synthesis of Molecules/Compounds:

    • Set up and execute reactions for the synthesis of target molecules or compounds.
    • Understand and implement the required synthetic route as per project specifications.
    • Identify the correct reagents and use appropriate equipment (glassware, stirrers, vacuum pumps) while maintaining specified conditions (temperature, pressure).
    • Plan and manage the execution of multiple reactions simultaneously, ensuring optimal usage and minimal waste.
    • Monitor reaction progress using various analytical techniques.
    • Perform workup and purification techniques to obtain intermediates and final compounds of desired quality.
    • Analyze and interpret the data from the synthesis process, ensuring quality control and process optimization.
  • Safety and Risk Management:

    • Review and discuss the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) with the team.
    • Identify potential safety risks and mitigate them with guidance from the supervisor.
    • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and good laboratory practices.
    • Properly maintain and use equipment in accordance with SOPs and general housekeeping standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Accurately document reactions, observations, and research findings in lab notebooks as per client requirements.
    • Maintain data integrity and intellectual property (IP) confidentiality.
    • Prepare final reports and ensure they meet the client’s specifications.
    • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with IP confidentiality policies.
  • Team Development and Knowledge Sharing:

    • Enhance knowledge of organic chemistry and analytical techniques through training and one-on-one discussions.
    • Foster a high-morale environment and guide junior team members to meet productivity and quality targets.
    • Support continuous learning and skill development through classroom and project-based training.

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:

    • MSc in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry with 1–5 years of relevant experience.
    • A Ph.D. or post-doctoral experience is a plus.
  • Experience:

    • Proven experience in organic synthesis and handling complex reactions.
    • Familiarity with analytical techniques and using various equipment for synthesis and purification.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Candidates with research publications in leading journals are highly preferred.

Key Skills:

  • Knowledge of Chemistry: Strong understanding of organic synthesis and related analytical techniques.
  • Safety Protocols: Expertise in lab safety protocols, including safe handling of hazardous materials and chemicals.
  • IP & Confidentiality: Ability to maintain IP confidentiality and data integrity.
  • Resource Optimization: Ability to conduct cost-benefit analysis for efficient use of resources in the lab.
