Position Title: Senior Director, Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) – North America

Location: Full-time remote (U.S.)
Reporting To: Chief Medical Officer


Position Overview:
The Senior Director will lead ADC medical affairs activities in North America (U.S. and Canada), overseeing medical monitoring, risk assessments, and medical communications for products under development and on the market. This role establishes and maintains relationships with key opinion leaders, supports research and medical education initiatives, and provides strategic guidance on policy and regulatory matters related to medical devices.


Key Responsibilities:

Medical Affairs Leadership

  • Lead all regional medical affairs functions, providing oversight and decision-making for critical product issues.

  • Act as regional product safety officer, assessing and monitoring adverse events.

  • Lead scientific advisory boards and engage key opinion leaders to inform product development, labelling updates, and scientific communications.

Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with commercial and marketing teams to develop medical communications and provide guidance on product features, benefits, and competitive advantages.

  • Support training and continuous medical education programs.

  • Participate in local, national, and international medical and industry meetings to influence policy and regulations.

Strategic Projects & Compliance

  • Pilot new initiatives involving the regional medical community in collaboration with global functions.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate and divisional policies.

  • Travel approximately 40% of the time.


Accountability & Scope:

  • Own the regional medical affairs workstream, impacting business outcomes.

  • Lead dedicated medical affairs staff (Direct reports: up to 7; Indirect reports: up to 30).

  • Contribute to global medical and clinical strategies.


Required Qualifications:

  • MD degree with board certification and expertise in clinical diabetes care.

  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience in a management role.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing teams of 5+ members.

  • Hands-on experience managing patients with diabetes.

  • Scientific credibility to communicate complex clinical and scientific information to varied audiences.

  • Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s in Public Health, Health Economics, or Health Policy).

  • Knowledge of clinical research, medical risk management, and/or medical device regulations.

  • Clinical background in diabetology or endocrinology.

  • Experience in clinical study design, health economics, or medical statistics.

  • Fluency in French.

Compensation:
Base pay: $188,700 – $377,300 (may vary by location).
