Position Overview

Roche Diagnostics acquired Stratos Genomics in 2020 for its unique Sequencing by Expansion (SBX™) technology, which improves nanopore sequencing's accuracy and throughput. In this role, you will be responsible for engineering and synthesizing molecular building blocks to help improve the performance of this novel technology.

You will join the Molecular Engineering group, a passionate and innovative team dedicated to developing novel molecules that have the potential to significantly advance DNA sequencing and patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities:

  • Experimental Design & Execution:
    • Conduct innovative and controlled experiments with a high attention to detail.
    • Identify, troubleshoot, and creatively solve problems in the research process.
  • Project Goal Achievement:
    • Contribute to defining and ensuring the timely achievement of project goals.
    • Participate in the production of reagents and starting materials.
  • Data Analysis & Protocol Development:
    • Perform detailed data analysis and contribute to protocol development for laboratory procedures.
    • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to aid in reagent and starting material production.
  • Laboratory Maintenance & Organization:
    • Maintain accurate, detailed, and reliable laboratory records.
    • Keep the laboratory space clean, organized, and safe.
  • Collaboration & Presentation:
    • Present findings at group or departmental meetings, contributing to the sharing of knowledge and fostering team collaboration.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Propose and implement improvements to lab processes and workflows to increase efficiency and quality.

Who You Are

  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Organic Synthesis, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience in areas such as nucleotide/heterocyclic chemistry, phosphorus chemistry, oligo synthesis, complex HPLC purification, and/or multi-step organic synthesis.
  • Preferred Skills & Expertise:
    • Demonstrated experience with:
      • Nucleotides, phosphoramidites, heterocycles, amino acids, and bio-conjugations.
      • Working with chemical and biochemical samples, including sample handling, reactivity, purification, and storage.
      • Next-generation DNA sequencing and associated technologies.
      • HPLC, MS, NMR, automated DNA synthesizers, inert atmosphere chambers, and manual pipetting.
  • Additional Competencies:
    • Strong technical skills, with a focus on precision and reliability.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
    • Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting skills, and creative problem-solving.
