Position Overview:

Abbott is seeking an experienced Senior Facilities Technician to support the medical devices team at their St. Paul, MN location. This role, working from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, will ensure the facility operates smoothly by maintaining equipment and performing repairs, with a focus on minimizing breakdowns, especially in production areas. The Senior Facilities Technician will also be responsible for leading maintenance tasks, training less experienced staff, and ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Preventive Maintenance & Repairs:

    • Perform preventive maintenance by cleaning, adjusting, calibrating, and repairing equipment.
    • Repair production equipment, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
    • Maintain facilities, including repairs to walls, ceilings, doors, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Installation & Systems Management:

    • Assist with the installation of production equipment and related systems.
    • Manage and maintain wastewater treatment and purity in production processes.
    • Oversee waste treatment operations as required.
  • Facility Maintenance & Safety:

    • Conduct building repairs such as painting and structural repairs.
    • Maintain safety standards in all work areas and ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues; escalate as needed.
  • Team Leadership & Training:

    • May serve as lead technician, assigning work to less experienced employees.
    • Provide job skill training and maintain certifications in relevant technical areas.
  • Operational Support:

    • Respond to after-hour call-ins on a rotating shift basis as part of the facilities team.
    • Adapt to unforeseen situations and handle interruptions effectively.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent, with trade school certification, formal apprenticeship, or relevant specialized training.
    • Strong understanding of single and three-phase electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical skills.
    • Demonstrated experience with maintenance tools and equipment used in the trade.
  • Skills:

    • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Proficiency in commonly used desktop computer software, including building automation and maintenance software.
  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks including bending, stooping, and climbing.
    • Excellent hand/eye coordination and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Additional Requirements:

    • Must be able to maintain a special boilers license or obtain one within one year.
    • Knowledge of heating and cooling systems in both general and controlled environments.
    • Availability for occasional overtime and rotating on-call shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Facilities Maintenance Experience:
    • Experience with HVAC systems and data center maintenance, including equipment such as generators, UPS units, chillers, and fire suppression systems.

  • Base Pay Range: $23.25 – $46.45 per hour (varies by location).
