Position Overview

Genentech’s Corporate Law team is hiring a Senior Corporate Counsel for its Manufacturing and Site Operations Law Group (MSOLG), reporting to the Senior Director. This role involves providing legal counsel for Genentech and Roche U.S. Pharma-affiliated sites, including:

  • Pharma Technical Operations
  • Site Services
  • Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)
  • Security, Real Estate/Planning
  • Research and other site organizations

🔹 Onsite Requirement: Minimum 3 days per week at the South San Francisco campus.
🔹 Relocation Benefits: Not available
🔹 Remote Work: Not suitable for a fully remote arrangement.


Key Responsibilities

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance & Enforcement

  • Provide legal counsel on federal, California, and local EHS laws and regulations (hazardous waste, air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, process safety, occupational safety, sustainability).
  • Manage state and federal Superfund sites and site remediation strategies.
  • Handle environmental due diligence for site acquisitions, development, and divestitures.

Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Advise on Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act manufacturing compliance, including cGMP and quality system requirements.
  • Provide guidance on IACUC and USDA regulatory matters.
  • Counsel on DEA licensing and enforcement.

Transactional & Contractual Support

  • Assist with manufacturing supply agreements and other related contracts.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to negotiate EHS-related provisions in transactional documents.
  • Provide legal support on land use and construction matters.

International Trade & Compliance

  • Provide legal guidance on international trade laws and compliance.

Managing External Counsel

  • Oversee and collaborate with outside counsel for specialized legal matters.

Qualifications

🎓 Education & Licensure:

  • J.D. degree from a U.S. law school.
  • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state (eligible for CA Registered In-House Counsel program).

📌 Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in EHS or manufacturing-related legal roles (preferably in pharma/biotech).
  • Prior experience with FDA/cGMP compliance (preferred but not required).
  • Expertise in EHS regulatory compliance and industrial site operations.
  • Strong contract negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority and present complex legal issues to senior leadership.

Compensation & Benefits

💰 Salary Range: $198,500 - $368,600 (based on location & experience)
🎯 Annual Bonus: Discretionary, based on individual and company performance
