Senior Associate Import/Export

Location: Lisbon, Portugal
Job Type: Full-time


What You Will Do

The Senior Associate Import/Export will manage the operational import and export activities in support of the Global Trade and Compliance Excellence team. This role serves as a liaison between internal teams, vendors, brokers, and government agencies to ensure smooth and compliant shipments across customs borders.

  • Partner internally and externally to manage inbound and outbound customs transactions, collaborating closely with internal requestors, the Amgen transportation team, brokers, and government agencies.
  • Advise on international Customs and Other Government Agency (OGA) import/export requirements.
  • Determine commodity classification for transactions.
  • Review shipping documentation, customs invoices, and other paperwork for accuracy (valuation, commodity classification, country of origin).
  • Support the acquisition of necessary shipment permits and licenses.
  • Resolve transaction issues, including addressing inquiries and delays from Customs/OGA.
  • Establish and update trade compliance processes and procedures.
  • Collect and report on key transactional performance metrics.

What We Expect of You

We are looking for a detail-oriented, self-driven professional with the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of Trade Compliance experience OR
  • Associate’s degree and 6 years of Trade Compliance experience OR
  • High school diploma/GED and 8 years of Trade Compliance experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in Trade Compliance or Import/Export operations.
  • Licensed Customs Broker or Customs Certification.
  • Knowledge of International Customs and World Trade Organization regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, collaboration, and executive presentation skills.
  • Multi-lingual (e.g., Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, English).
