Novo Nordisk’s Global Nucleic Acid Therapies area is a leader in nucleic acid therapeutics. The department is focused on developing innovative technology platforms and molecules to create novel genetic medicines that improve patients' lives. We aim to bring curative and disease-modifying therapies to individuals living with serious chronic conditions. Our proprietary RNAi technologies, such as GalXC™ and GalXC-Plus™, offer potential solutions to conditions that are difficult to treat with other methods. The team is composed of inventive thinkers from across locations including Massachusetts (Greater Boston Hub), Colorado, and Copenhagen.

Position Overview:
Novo Nordisk is seeking a highly motivated scientist to join the oligonucleotide chemistry team in Lexington, Massachusetts. This position involves the synthesis, analysis, and characterization of oligonucleotides to support therapeutic programs across various disease areas. The scientist will also contribute to the development of novel nucleic acid conjugate platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oligonucleotide Synthesis & Analysis:

    • Synthesize oligonucleotides, perform deprotection, purification, annealing, and lyophilization.
    • Characterize synthesized oligonucleotides for purity and impurity profiling.
  2. Chemistry Discovery:

    • Support new chemistry discovery and the development of oligonucleotide conjugate platforms.
  3. Lab Operations:

    • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab instruments, including oligonucleotide synthesizers, purification systems, HPLC, and LC-MS.
    • Ensure laboratory work is conducted in a safe, efficient manner.
  4. Collaboration:

    • Work as part of a team to meet deadlines and schedules.
    • Keep accurate records and summarize results in written reports.

Physical Requirements:

  • 0-10% overnight travel required.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • PhD with 0-2 years of industrial experience, OR
    • MS with at least 3 years of industrial experience, OR
    • BS with 5 years of industrial experience.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of nucleic acid chemistry, oligonucleotide synthesis, deprotection, and purification techniques.
    • Experience with oligonucleotide synthesizers (preferred).
    • Familiarity with the synthesis, purification, and analysis of sgRNA (preferred).
    • Proficiency in analytical techniques such as RP-UPLC, SAX-HPLC, LC-MS, and data interpretation.
  • Other Skills:

    • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong teamwork and work ethic.
