Job Summary

The Scientist will lead and support research and development of clinical and biopharma products within the LabCorp Oncology R&D team. The role involves collaboration with clinical, bioinformatics, software development, IT groups, and other stakeholders to develop, validate, and support oncology NGS assay portfolio.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership (50%): Develop, optimize, validate, and perform Advanced Diagnostic Laboratory Tests (ADLT) using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms and orthogonal genomic methods.

  • Technology Transfer (20%): Coordinate with clinical and biopharma teams for transfer of newly validated assays, including creating SOPs for clinical and biopharma use.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%): Maintain relationships with clinical, biopharma, bioinformatics, software development, IT, vendors, and executive leadership.

  • Communication & Reporting (10%): Present outcomes of new product validations and troubleshooting studies; support peer-reviewed publications.

  • Training & Development (5%): Devise and execute technical training to develop team skills.

  • Supervision (5%): Participate in training new staff and students in the laboratory.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences (e.g., Molecular Genetics, Biology, Biotechnology, Medical Technology)

  • 5 years of full-time professional clinical or research laboratory experience in industry

  • Established expertise in instrumentation operation and techniques

  • Proficient in analytical thinking, scientific/technical writing, planning, troubleshooting, time management, and delegation

  • Strong communication skills for collaborative, cross-functional teamwork

  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Biological Sciences with 3 years of relevant experience, or

  • PhD degree in Biological Sciences with 1 year of relevant experience

  • Strong molecular biology background, NGS experience, and tumor sample processing


Salary Range

  • $65,000 – $85,000 annually

  • Compensation based on skills, experience, degrees/certifications, internal equity, and market data
