Role Overview:

The Scientific Specialist will be responsible for creating high-quality scientific content for a variety of communication outputs. This includes conducting research, writing, editing, and fact-checking to meet deadlines and project objectives. The role involves liaising with clients, opinion leaders, and external authors while maintaining an in-depth understanding of client products, therapy areas, and industry guidelines. The Scientific Specialist will also contribute to project execution, client management, and mentoring team members.


Key Responsibilities:

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the department’s services to ensure informed and consistent communication with clients.

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of client products and therapy areas for assigned accounts.

  • Adhere to industry guidelines (e.g., Good Publications Practice) and promote adherence by others.

  • Identify issues relevant to project delivery and initiate actions to resolve them.

  • Contribute specialist knowledge to proposal and pitch development teams.

Project Execution and Success:

  • Write and edit high-quality scientific content.

  • Prioritize tasks and manage project schedules to meet deadlines.

  • Ensure that work aligns with project scope and objectives.

  • Interpret scientific data accurately and consistently produce output aligned with client objectives.

  • Conduct research relevant to assigned projects and maintain familiarity with available information sources.

  • Foster strong relationships with opinion leaders, authors, and external parties to ensure project success.

  • Identify issues that could affect project delivery and take appropriate action to resolve them.

  • Communicate effectively with team members across all functions and participate actively in team discussions.

  • Proactively use knowledge to benefit project delivery and business success.

  • Participate in peer reviews of others’ work.

Client Management:

  • Assess project needs and ensure they are met in a way that benefits client satisfaction and profitability.

  • Address complex technical and process issues with internal teams, clients, and/or external bodies.

  • Look for opportunities to develop follow-on business and maintain high levels of client satisfaction.

  • Effectively manage timelines, expectations, and project scope to ensure client satisfaction.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Technical expertise in acquiring and applying specialized therapy area knowledge.

  • Ability to interpret and organize scientific data.

  • Strong scientific writing, proofreading, and copyediting skills.

  • Ability to manage projects effectively and prioritize work.

  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Strong client focus and professional interaction with clients.

  • Willingness to undertake continuous professional learning and development.

  • Effective presentation skills and willingness to train and mentor others.


Knowledge and Experience:

  • 5-8 years of prior experience in a similar role, preferably in a medical communications agency environment.

  • Expertise in scientific writing and editing, with a good understanding of medical communication practices.


Education:

  • A degree (BSc, BA, PharmD, PhD, MD) in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, or related field is required.

  • A higher degree (PhD, MD) is preferred.
