Position Overview:
As a Research Scientist / Senior Research Scientist in the Synthesis Department at Jubilant Biosys, you will play a key role in the synthesis, purification, and characterization of chemical intermediates and novel chemical entities. You will work collaboratively within a team and may be required to lead a team of 3-8 chemists while managing your own reactions. The role involves contributing to drug discovery projects and applying advanced organic chemistry knowledge to solve complex synthesis challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Synthesis & Purification: Synthesize, purify, and characterize chemistry intermediates, delivering small to large quantities of novel chemical entities for drug discovery.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of 3-8 chemists, ensuring effective collaboration, coordination, and project delivery.
  • Organic Chemistry Expertise: Apply advanced organic chemistry knowledge, functional group conversions, and multi-step synthesis techniques.
  • Retrosynthetic Analysis & Route Design: Demonstrate strong understanding of retrosynthetic analysis and route designing for chemistry projects.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Resolve complex problems in synthesis, purification, and extraction. Handle pyrophoric reactions and other challenging chemical processes.
  • Advanced Analytical Techniques: Utilize and interpret analytical data from techniques such as NMR, IR, Mass Spectrometry, and HPLC.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Write and review electronic lab notebooks, research reports, patents, and manuscripts. Conduct literature searches using Reaxys/Scifinder and document findings.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all laboratory activities adhere to safety protocols and best practices.
  • Research Environment: Contribute to creating a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative research environment while maintaining lab inventory and managing chemical orders.

Person Profile:

  • Qualifications: Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a related field / Post-Doctorate
  • Experience: 1-5 years of industry or post-doctoral experience in organic synthesis
  • Skills:
    • Strong background in organic chemistry with expertise in functional group conversions, multi-step synthesis, and retrosynthetic analysis
    • Experience in leading a team of chemists and handling complex chemical reactions
    • Proficient in using analytical tools (NMR, IR, Mass Spectrometry, HPLC) and interpreting related data
    • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills
    • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team
