Job Purpose

The Purchase Operations Partner is responsible for ensuring the timely supply of raw materials, consumables, reagents, animals, and other necessary materials to support Syngene’s projects. The individual will also play a key role in strategic sourcing, supplier selection, contract negotiations, and supplier relationship management to meet R&D and CRO needs while managing risks and driving cost optimization.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management

  • Lead the strategic sourcing process for categories such as Animals, Chemistry, Biology, General Materials & Services.
  • Develop and maintain strong market knowledge in key spend areas, including supplier evaluation, supplier selection, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and execute contracts that meet Syngene’s commercial goals while maintaining a strong focus on cost optimization.
  • Manage supplier relationships to optimize supply chains, reduce risks, and ensure quality and compliance.

Procurement Operations

  • Oversee the procurement of materials and services for various projects, ensuring timely delivery and meeting customer expectations (PR-PO, QUOTIF, etc.).
  • Manage the full sourcing process, including Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Proposals (RFP), contract execution, and supplier performance monitoring.
  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing initiatives such as spend analysis, category management, and supply-demand market intelligence.
  • Drive cost savings initiatives through negotiation, benchmarking, and clean-sheet costing.

Stakeholder & Vendor Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and global teams to understand business needs and provide sourcing support.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in negotiating contracts and managing multiple projects and initiatives.
  • Implement vendor development strategies and lead annual rate contract negotiations.
  • Identify supply risks and execute mitigation plans, ensuring business continuity and project success.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and share MIS reports highlighting key findings, areas for improvement, cost savings, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Generate SAP reports for data analysis, market intelligence, and informed decision-making.
  • Provide regular updates to management on procurement activities, supplier performance, and key sourcing metrics.

Skills & Competencies

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Expertise in strategic sourcing and vendor evaluation across multiple categories.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical supply chains, including logistics, SEZ, EOU, and cold chain management.
  • Experience in contract negotiation, supplier relationship management, and risk mitigation.
  • Proficient in MIS reporting and SAP data generation for decision support.
  • In-depth knowledge of market intelligence, benchmarking, and eco-system awareness for CROs/CDMOs.

Education & Experience

  • Educational Qualification:

    • Bachelor’s degree (preferably with Chemistry as one of the subjects).
    • PG Diploma in Materials Management (MM) or MBA is a plus.
  • Experience:

    • 6–9 years of experience in strategic sourcing within the pharmaceutical industry.
    • Proven experience in cross-functional team management, data mining, and market analysis.
    • Demonstrated ability in vendor negotiation, risk mitigation, and contract management.
