The position

Global Computational Biology and Digital Sciences (gCBDS) is a global organization across multiple sites at Boehringer Ingelheim including Vienna (Austria), Biberach (Germany), and Ridgefield (USA). With immediate effect, we are hiring a talented and experienced Principal Scientist Real-World Data analysis in Vienna (Austria) for our computational oncology research team. Real-world data in oncology is revolutionizing cancer research and treatment. The integration of real-world data (RWD) with multi-omics approaches accelerates our ability to translate scientific discoveries into effective therapies. By harnessing the power of clinical data from diverse patient populations, we can uncover invaluable insights that drive innovation and improve patient outcomes. As part of a cross-functional team, you will use statistics and machine learning (ML) / artificial intelligence (AI), to identify new therapeutic concepts, biomarkers, and drug resistance mechanisms, ultimately transforming the landscape of cancer care and offering hope to patients worldwide.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Analyse and interpret clinical real-world oncology data and multi-omics datasets, to uncover insights and drive decision-making in oncology research.
  • Identify appropriate patient cohorts to validate hypotheses and support clinical development programs.
  • Develop and implement advanced statistical and ML/AI models to identify biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and patient stratification strategies.
  • Communicate findings and insights through clear and concise reports, visualizations, and presentations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including biologists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians, to integrate and analyze diverse data types.
  • Establish and lead scientific collaborations with external partners from academia or industry. 

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or similar degree with background in computational biology, biology, medicine, or relevant life-science field. 
  • 3+ years of work experience in an industry or biotech setting. 
  • Extensive experience and proficiency in working with real-world patient data, epidemiological data and/or multi-omics data in a research or clinical setting. 
  • Strong command of at least one programming language (R or Python) and experience with version control and collaborative code development (Git). 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Effective communication and presentation of complex or technical aspects to multi-disciplinary teams.

The minimum gross annual salary according to the collective bargaining agreement for this position is EUR 64.023,54 (full time). For the actual salary the industry benchmark as well as your qualifications and experiences are taken into consideration.
