Position Overview

Syneos Health is seeking an experienced Principal Data Scientist to join its Technology & Data Solutions (TDS) business unit in Hyderabad. This senior leadership role drives enterprise-wide data science initiatives, delivers innovative solutions, and enables data-driven decision-making to accelerate the development of meaningful new medicines.

The Principal Data Scientist will lead advanced analytics projects, mentor junior team members, and partner with cross-functional teams to create actionable insights from complex, multi-source data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of data science models, algorithms, and processes to integrate and analyze structured and unstructured big data.

  • Collaborate with product, service, and business teams to define analytical requirements, solve complex problems, and generate actionable insights.

  • Develop and maintain standardized templates, SOPs, code repositories, and documentation for reproducible analytics and model governance.

  • Build automated pipelines to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large, diverse datasets from multiple sources.

  • Interpret, visualize, and communicate analytical findings to stakeholders, including senior management, influencing strategic decisions.

  • Provide thought leadership and innovative solutions to meet company objectives and support enterprise-wide adoption of advanced analytics.

  • Tackle complex and ambiguous problems requiring evaluation of qualitative and quantitative data.

  • Manage internal and external data resources, including ‘always-on’ data vendors, ensuring timely delivery of products and solutions.

  • Mentor and coach junior data scientists, fostering technical growth, best practices, and collaborative problem-solving.

  • Ensure compliance with internal processes, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices for data analytics.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline); PhD preferred.

  • 8–12 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics roles, preferably in healthcare, life sciences, or B2B/B2C analytics.

  • Expertise in programming languages such as Python or R, and database languages such as SQL.

  • Strong background in data analysis, statistical modeling, and data science methodologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently execute projects with minimal supervision.

  • Proven experience influencing teams and acting as a strategic partner to senior management.

  • Deep understanding of data science model development lifecycle and advanced analytics techniques.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, grit, and the confidence to champion best practices.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and mentorship abilities.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
