Position Overview

Syneos Health is seeking an experienced Principal Data Scientist to join its Technology & Data Solutions (TDS) business unit in Hyderabad. This senior leadership role drives enterprise-wide data science initiatives, delivers innovative solutions, and enables data-driven decision-making to accelerate the development of meaningful new medicines.

The Principal Data Scientist will lead advanced analytics projects, mentor junior team members, and partner with cross-functional teams to create actionable insights from complex, multi-source data.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and deployment of data science models, algorithms, and processes to integrate and analyze structured and unstructured big data.
Collaborate with product, service, and business teams to define analytical requirements, solve complex problems, and generate actionable insights.
Develop and maintain standardized templates, SOPs, code repositories, and documentation for reproducible analytics and model governance.
Build automated pipelines to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large, diverse datasets from multiple sources.
Interpret, visualize, and communicate analytical findings to stakeholders, including senior management, influencing strategic decisions.
Provide thought leadership and innovative solutions to meet company objectives and support enterprise-wide adoption of advanced analytics.
Tackle complex and ambiguous problems requiring evaluation of qualitative and quantitative data.
Manage internal and external data resources, including ‘always-on’ data vendors, ensuring timely delivery of products and solutions.
Mentor and coach junior data scientists, fostering technical growth, best practices, and collaborative problem-solving.
Ensure compliance with internal processes, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices for data analytics.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline); PhD preferred.
8–12 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics roles, preferably in healthcare, life sciences, or B2B/B2C analytics.
Expertise in programming languages such as Python or R, and database languages such as SQL.
Strong background in data analysis, statistical modeling, and data science methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to independently execute projects with minimal supervision.
Proven experience influencing teams and acting as a strategic partner to senior management.
Deep understanding of data science model development lifecycle and advanced analytics techniques.
Exceptional problem-solving skills, grit, and the confidence to champion best practices.
Excellent communication, leadership, and mentorship abilities.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
