Role Overview:

The Principal CMC Statistician plays a critical role in Amgen’s pipeline, supporting the development, qualification, and transfer of physical test methods for new molecules and commercial products. You will contribute to the lifecycle of products by providing statistical analysis, study designs, and acceptance criteria, ensuring that all activities align with Amgen’s goals and regulatory requirements. Additionally, you will promote continuous improvement and help administer statistical training for engineers and scientists.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Statistical Support & Analysis:
    Provide statistical analysis for activities such as process characterization, monitoring programs, analytical methods, specifications, and investigations across clinical and commercial manufacturing sites.

  • Study Design & Acceptance Criteria:
    Establish study designs, perform evaluations, and assess acceptance criteria for Design Verification testing, aligning with Amgen’s and regulatory requirements.

  • Statistical Tools & Techniques:
    Act as a technical lead for developing, implementing, and maintaining statistical tools and techniques for product lifecycle activities, including SAS and/or R code development and writing standardized report templates.

  • Collaborative Support:
    Collaborate with technical teams to develop experimental studies, perform statistical analysis, and document results in accordance with Amgen’s document control system.

  • Regulatory Support:
    Support regulatory audits and inspections, providing statistical responses to queries and additional analyses as needed.

  • Continuous Improvement:
    Promote statistical techniques in biologics and monoclonal antibody processes and mentor technical associates on statistical software tools.

  • Industry Engagement:
    Stay up to date on industry trends and guidance documents, participating in external conferences to share knowledge.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in Applied Statistics, Industrial Statistics, or Non-clinical Biostatistics with 2 years of applied statistics experience, OR
  • Master’s degree in Applied Statistics, Industrial Statistics, or Non-clinical Biostatistics with 8 to 10 years of applied statistics experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Statistics, Industrial Statistics, or Non-clinical Biostatistics with 10 to 14 years of applied statistics experience, OR
  • Diploma in Applied Statistics, Industrial Statistics, or Non-clinical Biostatistics with 14 to 18 years of applied statistics experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate degree with 6+ years of experience in Biopharma manufacturing and control.
  • Proficiency in statistical tools and techniques for biopharma manufacturing, including Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control, and Process Capability Analysis.
  • Proficient in SAS, R programming, and JMP statistical software.
