Physician Supervisor – Psych or Neurology – VA C&P Exams (Remote + 50% Travel)

Job Summary

OptumServe is hiring a Physician Supervisor (MD/DO; Psychiatry, Neurology, Physiatry, or Neurosurgery board-certified) to lead and supervise a national team of Medical Disability Examiners performing VA Compensation & Pension (C&P) disability evaluations, including TBI exams. You will travel 50% of the time to fixed and mobile sites to conduct exams and, when remote, provide clinical oversight, complete ACE (Acceptable Clinical Evidence) and internal Medical Opinion (IMO) reviews, establish collaborating agreements with mid-levels, and ensure quality, timeliness, and compliance with VA requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Supervise physicians and mid-level providers on the Medical Disability Exam Travel team.

  • Perform and/or oversee VA C&P exams (including TBI), ACE reviews, and Medical Opinion Only requests.

  • Ensure adherence to VA quality and timeliness measures and internal OptumServe standards.

  • Establish and manage collaborative agreements with mid-level providers.

  • Lead quality improvement, documentation accuracy, denial reduction, and operational excellence.

  • Work flexibly in mobile clinics, pop-up events, and homebound settings as needed.

  • Maintain strict compliance with federal, state, and VA regulations and Optum telecommuter policies.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • MD or DO, with an active, unrestricted state medical license (or ability to obtain; IMLC compact acceptable where applicable).

  • Board certification in Psychiatry, Neurology, Physiatry (PM&R), or Neurosurgery.

  • Demonstrated experience with VA C&P disability evaluations and knowledge of VA quality/timeliness metrics.

  • Proven leadership, organizational, multitasking ability and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and modern clinical documentation tools.

  • Willingness to travel ~50% nationwide; ability to work remotely when not traveling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified VA Compensation & Pension Examiner.

  • Prior military/veteran healthcare experience.

  • Prior supervisory/leadership experience over multi-disciplinary clinician teams.
