Compensation

Role Overview

Provide safe, accurate, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to patients at Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital and retail consumers, ensuring efficiency and adherence to established guidelines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a specialist in an assigned area, educate consumers, and guide clinical staff.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment guidelines for effective drug therapy.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary groups to improve patient care.
  • Conduct performance improvement projects, drug utilization evaluations, and adverse drug reaction reporting.
  • Train and evaluate Pharmacy Technicians, ensuring professional development.
  • Conduct clinical research and maintain advanced pharmaceutical practices.
  • Dispense medications by accurately interpreting provider drug orders and reviewing patient data for optimal therapy.
  • Prevent and resolve drug-related issues by reviewing medical data, lab results, and patient history.
  • Communicate drug therapy recommendations to healthcare providers and cost-saving strategies to physicians.
  • Stay updated on federal and state pharmacy regulations and ensure compliance.
  • Supervise support staff to maintain high standards in pharmaceutical preparation and dispensing.

Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (required); Pharm.D. (preferred).
    • Residency completion with at least two years of clinical practice or equivalent experience in retail/inpatient pharmacy (preferred).
  • Licensure & Certifications:

    • Valid, unrestricted U.S. pharmacy license.
    • Ability to dispense controlled substances.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and active membership in state/national pharmacy organizations (preferred).

Skills and Competencies

  • Expertise in drug therapy optimization and patient education.
  • Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficient in evaluating and preventing drug-related problems.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws and best practices.
