Job Overview
As a Medical Coder at Optum, you will be responsible for accurately assigning ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes to inpatient and outpatient medical records. Your work plays a critical role in accurate hospital reimbursement, statistical analysis, and overall healthcare planning. This role requires attention to detail, time management, and adherence to coding accuracy standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Assign ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes to inpatient and/or outpatient records with at least 95% accuracy.
Identify, abstract, and code diagnoses and procedures as per departmental and industry guidelines.
Complete coding tasks daily as per schedule and meet departmental productivity standards.
Participate in team meetings, coding discussions, and skill improvement sessions.
Collaborate with hospital and departmental staff to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Attend necessary conference calls and provide coding-related updates.
Follow company policies, terms of employment, and be flexible with shift or location changes as required by the business.
Required Qualifications
Graduate (any discipline)
Certified medical coder or fresher with valid certification
Accepted certifications:
AAPC: CPC (Certified Professional Coder)
AHIMA: CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder), COC (Certified Outpatient Coder)
Proof of valid certification (including certification ID) must be presented during the interview or offer process
Skills & Competencies
