Purpose of the Job:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role is designed to meet the in-depth, cutting-edge scientific information needs of Scientific and Clinical Experts (SEs/CEs) within the therapeutic area. These individuals play a crucial role in patient care, research, and education. MSLs foster scientific exchange and communicate valuable insights from SEs and CEs back to Lilly’s internal teams, thus influencing research and commercialization strategies. As an MSL, you will contribute to shaping the future of healthcare by providing critical scientific information that addresses important clinical and scientific questions.


Core Job Responsibilities:

1. Scientific Knowledge:

  • Continuously update and deepen knowledge in the therapeutic area, ensuring expertise in disease states and relevant products.
  • Serve as a trusted source of unbiased, accurate, and up-to-date medical and scientific information requested by SEs/CEs and other healthcare professionals.

2. Customer Engagement:

  • Spend the majority of time engaging with SEs/CEs through face-to-face interactions.
  • Use emotional intelligence and deep customer understanding to enhance customer experience and foster positive relationships.
  • Connect SEs/CEs with internal Lilly resources and facilitate collaboration for external research opportunities.

3. Territory Ownership:

  • Develop and implement strategic territory plans, prioritizing key MSL activities and ensuring personal accountability for results.
  • Use territory analytics to optimize customer identification and prioritize interactions.
  • Collaborate with other Lilly field roles to create a coordinated customer experience.

4. Strategic Vision and Leadership:

  • Synthesize complex data and translate insights into actionable feedback for internal teams.
  • Exercise sound judgment in decision-making, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Cultivate cross-functional collaborations and embrace change in response to evolving business needs.
  • Demonstrate the "Team Lilly" behaviors in all interactions, ensuring compliance with all internal and external policies and procedures.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in health sciences.
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Relevant experience in neuroscience or therapeutic areas like Alzheimer’s disease is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Strong intellectual curiosity and a passion for the therapeutic area.
    • Ability to understand and communicate complex scientific content clearly and concisely.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to build professional relationships and networks.

Additional Preferences:

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD) in a medically related field is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a field-based working environment is valued.
  • Self-directed and capable of managing multiple priorities independently in the field.
