Job Purpose
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) program is designed to provide field-based expertise in a specific therapeutic area. MSLs serve as scientific and clinical experts, engaging with Scientific Experts (SEs) and Clinical Experts (CEs) to deliver high-quality, up-to-date scientific information and gather valuable feedback to inform Lilly’s research and commercialization strategies. Through scientific exchange, MSLs have the opportunity to influence the future of healthcare.

Core Job Responsibilities

  1. Scientific Knowledge

    • Engage in continuous learning to maintain expertise in the therapeutic area represented.
    • Establish yourself as a reliable, trusted resource by providing unbiased, accurate, and up-to-date medical and scientific information to customers.
  2. Customer Engagement

    • Focus on customer-facing activities by applying emotional intelligence and strategic thinking.
    • Be a primary interface between Lilly medical and SEs/CEs, enhancing customer engagement and providing access to Lilly resources or internal business partners for collaborative research and external opportunities.
  3. Territory Ownership

    • Demonstrate strategic analysis, planning, and prioritization to maximize territory efficiency.
    • Implement and evaluate a strategic territory plan, ensuring prioritization of core MSL activities and taking accountability for results.
    • Collaborate with other Lilly field roles and share customer information to create coordinated, compliant experiences.
  4. Strategic Vision and Leadership

    • Synthesize and communicate actionable customer/clinical insights to internal teams.
    • Embrace change and exercise strategic agility to adapt to evolving business needs.
    • Demonstrate effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and foster internal networks.
    • Exhibit leadership by contributing to team goals and executing the role in a compliant and responsible manner.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Master's or Bachelor's degree in health sciences.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Skills:
    • Intellectual curiosity about the therapeutic area of responsibility.
    • Learning agility to understand and communicate complex scientific content effectively.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build professional relationships and network.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience preferred.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD) in a medically related field is preferred.
  • Experience in a field-based working environment is highly valued.
  • Ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively while working independently in the field.
