Position Summary

Astellas is seeking a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) / Senior MSL – Oncology to support its Medical Affairs operations across New England. This field-based role requires frequent travel to engage Key External Experts (KEEs), healthcare providers, and stakeholders.

The MSL will serve as a trusted scientific advisor, facilitating peer-to-peer scientific exchange, capturing field insights, supporting evidence generation, and delivering medical education aligned with Astellas’ oncology strategy.


Key Responsibilities

Field Medical Leadership

  • Support deployment of tactical field plans aligned with medical strategy and business objectives

  • Serve as a coach, mentor, and role model for other MSLs

  • Contribute to the implementation of medical and scientific initiatives within the region

Scientific Exchange & Expertise

  • Conduct one-on-one and group scientific exchanges regarding product knowledge, disease states, and therapeutic trends

  • Maintain and expand expertise in local healthcare environment and stakeholder needs

  • Support medical education activities and scientific learning for internal stakeholders

  • Engage KEEs, nurses, pharmacists, and other stakeholders to identify and communicate medical insights

Medical Insight & Evidence Generation

  • Capture field-derived insights to inform clinical development and medical strategies

  • Support evidence generation initiatives to address knowledge gaps and unmet medical needs

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Research & Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Commercial teams


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Doctorate in Health-Related Sciences (MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO)

  • Experience:

    • 3–5 years of scientific/medical experience in a research-based pharmaceutical organization

    • Minimum 2–3 years in Medical Affairs or MSL roles

  • Key Competencies:

    • Expertise in scientific exchange and peer-to-peer communication

    • Strong medical insight generation and analytical skills

    • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and relationship-building skills

    • Learning agility and strategic thinking

    • Business-fluent English


Work Environment & Travel

  • Field-based position covering New England

  • Frequent travel required to meet Medical Affairs objectives
