Position Summary

Astellas is seeking a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) / Senior MSL – Oncology to join our Medical Affairs team covering Arizona and Southern California. This field-based role requires travel to engage Key External Experts (KEEs), healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.

The MSL will act as a trusted scientific advisor, delivering peer-to-peer scientific exchange, medical insights, and educational solutions throughout the product life cycle. The role also supports evidence generation, identifies emerging stakeholders, and ensures the integration of field insights into medical and strategic planning.


Key Responsibilities

Field Medical Leadership

  • Execute tactical field plans in alignment with medical strategy and overall business objectives

  • Serve as a coach, mentor, and role model for other MSLs

  • Contribute to the deployment of medical and scientific initiatives within the region

Scientific Exchange & Expertise

  • Conduct one-on-one and group scientific exchanges regarding product knowledge, disease states, and therapeutic trends

  • Maintain deep understanding of local healthcare dynamics and stakeholder needs

  • Support medical education activities and peer-to-peer learning within internal teams

  • Engage with KEEs, nurses, pharmacists, and other stakeholders to identify and communicate medical insights

Medical Insight & Evidence Generation

  • Capture and report field-derived insights to inform clinical development and medical strategies

  • Support evidence generation activities to identify data gaps and unmet needs

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Research & Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Commercial teams


Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Doctorate in Health-Related Sciences (MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO)

  • Experience:

    • 3–5 years of scientific/medical experience in a research-based pharmaceutical organization

    • Minimum 2–3 years in Medical Affairs or MSL roles

  • Key Competencies:

    • Expertise in scientific exchange and peer-to-peer communication

    • Strong ability to generate and analyze medical insights

    • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills

    • Learning agility and strategic thinking

    • Business-fluent English


Working Environment & Travel

  • Field-based position covering Arizona and Southern California

  • Frequent travel required to achieve Medical Affairs objectives
