Medical Science Liaison – Haematology & Oncology

Position Summary

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based medical affairs professional responsible for developing and maintaining scientific relationships with Thought Leaders (TLs), Healthcare Professionals (HCPs), investigators, and key healthcare stakeholders within the Haematology and Oncology therapeutic areas.

The MSL serves as a trusted scientific partner by facilitating peer-to-peer scientific exchange, providing balanced and evidence-based medical information, gathering actionable insights from the external healthcare environment, and supporting clinical development and patient access initiatives.

This role requires extensive field engagement, with approximately 60–70% of time dedicated to interactions with external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

Scientific Engagement and Stakeholder Management

  • Establish and maintain strong scientific relationships with:

    • Thought Leaders (TLs)

    • Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs)

    • Healthcare Professionals (HCPs)

    • Access and reimbursement stakeholders

  • Conduct scientific discussions through multiple engagement channels including:

    • One-on-one meetings

    • Group presentations

    • Virtual interactions

    • Scientific events and conferences

  • Respond to unsolicited scientific, clinical, and health economics inquiries in a compliant and balanced manner.

  • Communicate disease-area knowledge, clinical evidence, and product-related information accurately and objectively.

Medical Strategy Execution

  • Develop and execute territory-specific Medical Affairs plans aligned with organizational objectives.

  • Build and implement Key Account medical engagement plans for institutions such as:

    • Armed Forces Medical Services

    • Railways Healthcare Services

    • Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS)

    • Other strategic healthcare accounts

  • Support execution of local and national medical initiatives.

  • Contribute to institution-level and cross-functional account planning activities.

Medical Insights Generation

  • Continuously evaluate the external medical landscape, treatment paradigms, and emerging scientific developments.

  • Gather meaningful medical insights from healthcare stakeholders.

  • Provide actionable insights to Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Market Access, and Commercial teams to support strategic decision-making.

  • Monitor competitor activities and evolving treatment practices within the therapeutic area.

Medical Education and Scientific Communication

  • Deliver scientific presentations and educational programs to healthcare professionals.

  • Ensure all communications comply with local regulations, ethical standards, and company policies.

  • Support development and delivery of scientifically meaningful educational initiatives and projects.

Internal Medical Support

  • Provide scientific and medical expertise to internal stakeholders, including:

    • Commercial Teams

    • Regulatory Affairs

    • Pharmacovigilance

    • Legal

    • HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research)

    • Market Access Teams

  • Conduct product and disease-area training programs.

  • Share scientific updates and emerging clinical evidence with internal teams.

Scientific Meetings and Speaker Support

  • Support scientific and promotional meetings by:

    • Presenting unbiased clinical and scientific data

    • Evaluating scientific speakers

    • Supporting BMS-contracted speakers when required


Clinical Trial Support

Clinical Research Activities

  • Support Interventional and Non-Interventional Research (NIR) studies.

  • Identify and evaluate potential clinical trial sites and investigators.

  • Assist in patient recruitment initiatives and investigator engagement.

  • Facilitate discussions regarding the safe and effective use of investigational products.

Feasibility and Site Assessment

  • Provide recommendations regarding:

    • Study feasibility

    • Site feasibility

    • Investigator selection

  • Support Clinical Development teams by leveraging field insights and investigator relationships.

CRO and Investigator Support

  • Collaborate with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) when required.

  • Support Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR) submission processes.

  • Ensure investigators understand and follow pharmacovigilance requirements and study procedures.


Pharmacovigilance and Compliance

  • Report Adverse Events (AEs) and other safety information in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with:

    • ICH-GCP Guidelines

    • Local regulations

    • Medical Affairs standards

    • Company policies and SOPs

  • Support investigator understanding of pharmacovigilance obligations within clinical studies.


Patient Advocacy and Education

  • Support patient advocacy initiatives and patient engagement programs.

  • Collaborate with patient advocacy groups and healthcare organizations.

  • Contribute to the development of patient education materials and awareness programs.


Qualifications

Education

Required:

  • MBBS

Preferred:

  • MD or equivalent postgraduate medical qualification


Experience

  • 1–2 years of Medical Affairs or Field Medical experience preferred.

  • Experience in Oncology and/or Haematology therapeutic areas is highly desirable.

  • Experience engaging with healthcare professionals, investigators, and key opinion leaders preferred.
