Purpose of the Role:
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based role designed to engage with Scientific Experts (SEs) and Clinical Experts (CEs) within the field of Cardiometabolic Health. MSLs provide cutting-edge scientific information, support the strategic direction of research and commercialization, and facilitate scientific exchange between industry and the scientific community. By delivering unbiased, accurate, and up-to-date medical knowledge, MSLs play an essential role in shaping the future of healthcare.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Scientific Knowledge & Expertise

    • Continuously engage in learning to maintain the highest level of technical expertise in Cardiometabolic Health.
    • Become a trusted resource for scientific information, responding to customer inquiries with credible and clear medical insights.
  2. Customer Engagement

    • Engage in frequent, customer-facing activities, building strong, professional relationships with SEs/CEs through emotional intelligence and strategic thinking.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between Lilly’s medical team and the scientific community, providing valuable insights and facilitating collaboration.
    • Connect SEs/CEs with Lilly resources and business partners for potential research collaborations and external opportunities.
  3. Territory Ownership & Planning

    • Develop and implement strategic territory plans to prioritize MSL activities and maximize efficiency.
    • Utilize territory analytics for customer identification and prioritization, ensuring a coordinated customer experience across Lilly field roles.
  4. Strategic Vision & Leadership

    • Synthesize customer and clinical insights to inform internal Lilly medical teams and cross-functional departments.
    • Collaborate effectively across functions, ensuring alignment and contributing to the team’s success.
    • Demonstrate leadership by adapting to business needs and embracing change with strategic agility.
  5. Compliance & Decision-Making

    • Adhere to all governing internal and external procedures, laws, and regulations, maintaining the highest standards of compliance and ethics.
    • Exercise sound judgment and escalate issues as necessary to the appropriate internal teams.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Required:

    • A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD).
    • At least 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or a related field.
    • Strong intellectual curiosity about Cardiometabolic Health and a passion for advancing scientific knowledge.
    • Ability to comprehend and communicate complex scientific information clearly and concisely.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Preferred:

    • Experience in a field-based environment, particularly in medical or scientific roles.
    • Experience in the Cardiometabolic therapeutic area is highly valued.
    • An advanced degree in health sciences (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD) is preferred.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects independently, while demonstrating effective time management.

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with a high emotional intelligence quotient and the ability to build professional relationships.
  • Proven track record in professional networking and customer engagement.
  • Experience with strategic analysis and planning.
